"Permafrost" by Alexis Kandra is an original oil painting with black and gold foil measuring 48" high x 48" wide x 1.75" deep. It is set in a surreal fantasy ecosystem setting with an unlikely gathering of coexisting wild and domestic animals including a pet husky, a sabertooth tiger, a baby polar bear and a dove in the foreground along with a wooly mammoth in the background. Kandra is a wildlife painter, often depicting figurative, realistic animals in surrealistic settings, often encircled in a bubble-like diorama ecosystem landscape set within a vast time and space grid, almost akin to a vintage or even futuristic gaming system. Often her animals peek beyond the bubble in x-ray or ultraviolet reverse pigment coloration giving a sci-fi style aesthetic to her imagery.
