"Mark Making" by Alexis Kandra is an original oil painting with metallic (pewter tone) metal foil and textured black foil on wood panel measuring 18" x 24" x 1.5" (2019). The painting features a cave lion and an auroch in front of ancient cave paintings of the same animals.
The cave lion and the auroch are in close contact, seeming to enjoy one another's company in the cave, with their shadows extending behind them alongside their cave art renderings. The animals in their cave are rendered inside a diorama like circle, surrounded by a vanishing point in the background -- half of the background is stark black above and then below is a vanishing metallic, light catching grid.
