"Little Bear" is a captivating mid-century oil painting by American artist Harold Vincent Skene (1883–1978). This traditional Western landscape, painted in the 1950s, features a striking scene of a brown or black bear crossing a fallen log over a stream, set against a vivid backdrop of lake reflections, evergreen trees, and majestic rocky mountains. The golden glow of sunlight bathes the peaks, while a serene blue sky stretches above—evoking the raw beauty of the American West. About the Artist – Harold Vincent Skene (1883–1978) Born in Massachusetts, Skene graduated from the Harvard School of Architecture in 1906. After moving to Colorado, he studied at the Denver Art Academy and the Broadmoor Art Academy, and later worked as an assistant to renowned muralist Allen Tupper True. Skene's work reflects his architectural background and a lifelong appreciation for the natural grandeur of the American West.
