Description: Painted in 1995, this striking watercolour by British artist Tony Herbert (1927–2024) depicts the River Blyth at Southwold, Suffolk — a view across the tidal flats toward a moored fishing vessel resting beside a series of wooden jetties. Rendered in a soft, atmospheric palette of greys, browns and mossy greens, the piece conveys a sense of calm and solitude typical of the East Anglian coast in late winter or early spring.
The fishing boat, accented with red buoys and faint stripes, sits firmly in the centre of the composition, flanked by slender masts and loosely sketched rigging. In the far distance, a dark silhouette of a church tower rises above a low wooded horizon — possibly the Church of St Edmund, a Southwold landmark.
