About the Item
Figurative surrealist still life landscape painting of the Virgin Mary by contemporary Hungarian artist Attila Szűcs.
The painting features a statue of the Virgin Mary replicated in a blurred abstract garden setting.
Attila Szűcs focuses on moments of “high intensity” beyond our everyday experiences. In his vision-like pictures, figurative elements and informal surfaces appear simultaneously, while his oeuvre in many ways engages with the classic traditions of painting.
Szűcs enhances the ambivalence in the characteristic blurriness of his figures and the space with “tricks” relating to both technique and composition, which are based on the physiognomy of human vision (blind spot, stereopsis). Manifested in experiments of form, his themes often bring to mind powerful historical allusions and their relation to the past.
Attila Szűcs has exhibited in major cities throughout Hungary, Germany, Italy, Austria, the UK, and New York. Museum shows include "Specters and Experiments“ (2016) at the Ludwig Museum in Budapest, Hungary.

In the last ten years the Hungarian painter Attila Szűcs has classified himeslf among the strong group of painters from Eastern Europe which could establish on the European and repeatedly on the international art scene. Szucs‘s work is based on his sophisticated technique, but in the first place, he is a painter of unprecedented imagination and sensitivity. In his paintings he often works with unexpected phenomena and realities, which involve the spectator in the center of the happening. Attila Szűcs has exhibited in a range of major cities in Germany, Italy, Austria and in New York. On the occasion of the exhibition "Specters and Experiments," which was organized in 2016 by the Ludwig Museum in Budapest, a monography was published. Attila Szűcs is quite rightly considered as one of the most fundamental figures in Eastern Europe, represented in various private collections in the whole world.

«My brother gave them a name» Still Life Oil Painting by Samantha Van Heest
By Samantha Van Heest
Located in Oslo, NO
This painting was inspired by the artists very first toy, a small blue giraffe, given to her as a day-old baby. It is something that has been around her whole life, and even though it is inanimate, there is a feeling of personification through the years of wear. Her brother as a baby would call giraffes “fa,” which is always a sweet memory she associate with this toy.

«Sh*t Happens» Figurative Oil Painting by Samantha Van Heest
By Samantha Van Heest
Located in Oslo, NO
Shit happens sometimes. In this piece, the artist wanted to create an unsettling and claustrophobic space where people feel most private and vulnerable. Inspired by artist Tala Madani, she created a cartoon figure to act as the voyeur, a bright and unwelcome disturbance that cannot be ignored.

Imported Goods is an exploration of environment, especially focusing on the wellness of the ocean and the consequences of human plastic consumption. There is beauty in appreciation and replication, but it becomes a tragedy when it fully devours natural creation.
