About the Item
Figurative 'pin-up' portrait painting with abstract mosaic style background by Hungarian artist Dénes Wächter. Offered unframed.
Dénes Wächter creates unique post-pop art paintings by combining and connecting motifs, figures, patterns, and styles from the most diverse contexts. He uses his memories of the high and popular art of his childhood, combining the humor and irony of pop art with illusionism, employing decorative and figurative characteristics of Hungarian painting of the '90s, and collage techniques. Wächter's painting shows the figure playfully entangling, mixing, and melting within the pictorial frame.
The piece, which looks nostalgic today, was part of restrained advertising campaigns of the socialist era and today represents a few grains of glass in Wächter's kaleidoscope.
Wächter graduated in 1990 with a degree in Painting from the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Pál Gerzson. He received a Lipót Herman Award in 1990 and 1993, a Derkovits Scholarship in 1995, and a Klára Herczeg Award in 1998. In 2000, Wächter won the Ministry of National Cultural Heritage Special Award at the Westárlat Exhibition.
