About the Item

This painting is done with small broken pieces of glass, arranged in a mosaic creating a skull. A unique process done by the artist meticulously. Having built a diverse body of work since her early career ranging from portraits to abstract paintings of the universe, Cindy has unearthed a new collection rooted deeply in the study of natural shapes, textures, and a new medium: glass. Having traveled and lived in different parts of the world, her experiences have brought new weight to the ideas which are exhibited in her works today: a connection to simple details and earth like materials. Cindy captures moments in each piece that are tranquil, raw, and detached. These new works exude light, a grounded backdrop, and hints of earth like gold materials which resemble concrete and stone; close to the nature of both the natural earth and manmade elements of New York City. PROVENANCE: Lilac Gallery Collection. This original artwork includes a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the Gallery. The piece is signed by the artist and stamped from Lilac Gallery on its verso. EXHIBITION HISTORY: Lilac Gallery NYC, “BREAKING THE GLASS” Solo Show, May 15 - June 4 2014.

"Glimmering in Paris" Abstract Figure Gown Haute Couture Oil Painting on Canvas
By Cindy Shaoul
Located in New York, NY
Exploring the purity of the feminine form and the drama of French haute couture, artist Cindy Shaoul creates a dialogue between the figurative and the abstract. Her spirited compositions are both dramatic and invigorating, capturing the fleeting moment of innocence swept up in bold color and seemingly controlled movement. She demonstrates a whimsical expression of femininity and formality; a stunning display of understated grandeur. It is as if the shape's only purpose is to hold the magnificent colors. Painted oil on canvas, signed and dated verso. Art measures 24 x 18 inches Inspired by whimsey and purity of the feminine form, Cindy Shaoul is known for her impressionistic and abstract style. She is best known for her series of Brides, Dripping Dots and Hearts, as well as her Plein air street scenes of quintessential New York spots. Shaoul’s works can be found in permanent collections of 100’s of Corporate and Private Collections around the world. Since her first solo show at the Parsons School of Design in 2009, her work has been showcased internationally in Busan South Korea and has shown at Art Fairs in Miami, Palm Beach, Dallas, and New York. She has had numerous Solo exhibitions and this year has garnered the attention of Actress Lily J. Collins and the like. Her love of painting began at the age of 18 when she was on Thanksgiving break from college. She painted a 9 foot colorful, abstract Mural in her Mothers' art studio and never stopped after that. She later traveled to Hungary and Budapest, picking up inspiration and studying abroad for 2 years, which has connected lifelong experiences that would influence her art today. Upon returning to New York City, she would continue her artistic education at the Art Students League, where she worked under the tutelage of Joseph Peller, Gregg Kreutz...

Man on the Hill Original Painting "Contemplation" by Contemporary British Artist
By Angela Wakefield
Located in Preston, GB
Man on the Hill Original Painting entitled "Contemplation" by leading Contemporary British Artist, Angela Wakefield. Blue, white & black expressive impasto on canvas. Art measures 24 x 24 inches Frame measures 29 x 29 inches This piece presents a hauntingly atmospheric and introspective moment, using abstraction to evoke emotion and imagination. Here’s an art curator’s perspective: 1. Mood and Emotion • The painting captures a profound sense of solitude and reflection. The lone figure standing against a turbulent, layered sky evokes feelings of contemplation, longing, or even melancholy. The use of blues and dark tones reinforces this introspective atmosphere. 2. Abstract Expressionism • The loose, textured brushstrokes create a sense of movement and depth in the sky, while the contrast between the figure and the landscape lends a poetic ambiguity. The lack of facial details in the figure allows viewers to project their own emotions or narratives onto the scene. 3. Color Palette and Contrast • The predominance of deep blues with hints of white and muted purples creates a mood that feels both serene and stormy. The sharp black silhouette of the figure against the lighter background highlights isolation while grounding the composition. 4. Narrative and Ambiguity • This painting invites interpretation. The figure could represent a memory, a spirit, or simply a person lost in thought. The lack of specific details keeps the work universal, allowing viewers to connect personally to its themes. 5. Framing and Presentation • The white frame softens the piece and provides a modern, clean boundary that contrasts well with the dark and moody composition. It enhances the painting’s versatility, making it suitable for both intimate spaces and larger collections. Artistic Significance: This work speaks to themes of human connection (or disconnection) with nature, identity, and the passage of time. It would resonate with those who appreciate contemplative art that blends abstraction with emotional depth, making it a unique addition to a thoughtful collection. Angela Wakefield has twice been on the front cover of ‘Art of England’ and featured in ARTnews, attracting international attention and critical acclaim with her urban landscape paintings of New York & London. The style of painting has been described as ‘contemporary realism’, and is often favourably compared with Edward Hopper by collectors and art critics. Angela’s work is held in private collections in Europe and the USA, including the British Royal Family. Her admirers include leading figures in international business...
