“There seems to be a reformation of sorts happening in the realm of worn out old structures like patriarchy and white privilege. Along with toxic masculinity, these constructs are under siege, as an awakening, aims to course correct a misdirected system. “Fragments of Man” is a stab at creating symbolic visuals to communicate what this deconstruction looks like, abstractly. Using images of Civil War generals as representations of the ego drenched pinnacle of masculinity, I am also simply seeking to make strong paintings that vibrate with both immediacy and longevity.” – Dane Carder Artist Statement / 2019

Dane is a self-taught artist, who for over a decade has utilized Civil War images as a means to investigate both personal and universal issues. He has exhibited in various art spaces, galleries, and museums, while consistently exploring and revealing underlying layers within the photographic source material.
