Dario Cusani
TWO LONELY PINES - Due Pini Solitari - Paint by Dario Cusani - 2006

2006

About the Item

TECHNIQUE PHOTO-PAINTING The technique used was defined as PHOTO-PAINTING by the art critic Silvia Pegoraro of Ravenna Italy and was an Artist's invention in 1994. In fact, since 1964 Dario Cusani had been working with photography and painting which had never been united. In 1994 I returned to Naples, the city where I was born and had been missing for 10 years after moving to Rome in 1984. I returned to see the MIRACLE achieved by the G7 with the Presidents of the most powerful countries led by Bill Clinton, US President. It was a wonderful visit to my city reborn in its ancient splendor! I took over 5,000 photos of the squares and monuments of Naples with my Nikon. I returned to Rome and had all the photos printed and put them on various tables and assembled all the various pieces. I immediately realized that parts were missing which I completed with paint. A spontaneous gesture with which I had unconsciously achieved a great innovation: I had combined the REALITY of photography with the DREAM represented by painting. Silvia, my muse who knew me well, when I showed her the first work IMPERATING MALE (R:0176) that I had done she said to me: "Dario you have united the TWO WORLDS of your life: that of your childhood with the sensitivity of the dreamer with the concrete one that they gave you taught your parents with education, studies (degree in Economic Sciences) and work started at 15 years old in your family's copper industry. These formative years had distanced myself from those of childhood when I studied the piano and dreamed of becoming an orchestra conductor. I also drew and painted with my imagination in search of the affections I was missing.  In fact my parents were busy in the factory (copper production) rebuilding Italy destroyed by the recently ended war. I then refined PHOTO-PAINTING which developed into DIGITAL PROCESSING having replaced the BRUSH with the MOUSE to fill the gaps left by the photography and complete the REALITY which with painting became another FANTASTIC reality. PLACES OF MEMORY Cities This work is part of the "research" PLACES OF MEMORY Cities revisited by me in a fantastic way. In fact I use my exclusive PHOTOPAINTING technique with a photographic element to which I add painting (oil or acrylic) to create a NEW REALITY. TWO LONELY PINESIn this picture I have combined my 2 cities where I lived for a long time: on the left Naples from 1948 to 1984 and on the right Rome from 1984 to 2018 when I returned to Naples. Among the many possible symbols I chose 2: for Naples the gulf with Vesuvius and Castellovo and for Rome a glimpse of Villa Medici, home of the French Academy (the country I love most after Italy!). Two completely different worlds, Naples bursting with sunlight that illuminates the side of Villa Medici which is the symbol of a family that made Florence and the art of the Renaissance great! But the incredible element of connection between the two cities is the PINE tree which actually exists in Villa Medici. Instead, I painted the one in Naples which was demolished in 1984 due to illness after having made Naples famous throughout the world for almost 2 centuries!

The Melting of Glaciers - Oil Painting by Sabrina Pugliese - 2019
Located in Roma, IT
The melting of glaciers is an original Contemporary Artwork realized by the Italian artist Sabrina Pugliese (b. 1990). Original oil painting on canvas. Hand-signed on the lower right corner: Sabrina Pugliese. Hand-signed, titled, and dated on the back too. Total dimensions: 70x70 cm. Mint conditions. "This artwork pays attention on the issue of sustainability. In fact, I am an Italian teacher and I often talk in the classroom about these questions specially during civics classes. Originally, I was intent on creating a giant wave because I was born and I lived in a small village near the sea. Subsequently, I changed my idea because my brush painted this scenary by itself. I love the oil on canvas technique also because I can blend the colour for hours as in this case where the waves break up in the fluidity of the sea". Sabrina Pugliese Sabrina Pugliese was born on April 2nd, 1990 in a small village in the Southern Italy, Nova Siri. Since she was a child, she was interested in arts in their different forms: singing, playing piano and visual arts. She graduated in Modern Literature at the University of Urbino, in the heart of the Italian Renaissance, the birthplace of Raffaello Sanzio. She didn’t have the chance to attend artistic high school because it was too far from home. So, after the graduation, she began to devote herself to her passions: painting, exclusively oil on canvas. She has started painting as a self-trained painter to promote and improve her territory, Basilicata, also named Lucania. Nowadays, she expanded her project because she wants to spread Mediterranean holidays’ colours, sounds and perfumes, with the image of the sea, all over the world. She knows that painting can give voice to landscapes of the soul through seascapes. She lived for ten years away from home to study and work and, in this way, she created a stronger relationship with her origins. During the pandemic, she has decided to return to Basilicata to offer her small contribution to the Southern of Italy. She has participated in several national and international exhibitions including: • Collective exhibition with two painters: Giulio Orioli e Nino Oriolo for “Night of the brigands” 2019, in Nova Siri Centre (MT) thank to collaboration of Maria De Lorenzo...
