About the Item
Provenance: Galeria Durban Cesar Segnini, Caracas Venezuela.
Emerio Dario Lunar was born on January 27, 1940 in Cabimas, Zulia state. Self-taught in painting, makes primary education in his hometown and later take courses by correspondence in commercial art and accordion. He begins his career as a painter while engaged in the commercial art and without prior instruction, followed by postcards, stickers and photos, running his first works. Oscar González Bogen, artist and longtime teacher, finds out in 1968 and released the following year, sending their work to Salon D'Empaire XII, in Maracaibo, where he obtained the Prize Lunar Dr. José Ortín Rodriguez, who gave the University del Zulia. That same year, 1969, the Ateneo de Caracas presented his first solo exhibition. Lunar painted Cabimas all his work without ever having left this town, where he died in 1990 at age 50 years. Lunar was involved in the “School of Maracaibo,” which grouped together artists from the state of Zulia such as Henry Bermúdez, Carmelo Niño, Ángel Peña, Edgar Parra, Pedro Piña, and Emerio Darío Lunar, among many others. Beginning in the 1970s, they all turned their backs on the academic tradition, creating an artistic movement of young people in Zulia. Also presented in the group "Creators on the sidelines in the MACC, and individually in the Exhibition Hall of the Mendoza Foundation, 1971, Centro de Bellas Artes de Maracaibo, 1976, Durban Gallery, 1980 Art Center Gallery Euroamerican. In addition to the aforementioned award, also won honorable mention at the Arturo Michelena XXVIII Hall, Ateneo de Valencia, Carabobo, 1970. He is included in the book Pintores Del Zulia (Venezuela) - Francisco Hung, Ender Cepeda, Carmelo Niño, Pedro Morales, Diego Barboza, Angel Peña, Henry Bermúdez, Emerio Darío Lunar, Francisco Bellorín. Emerio Darío Lunar’s has exhibited in the show; Das Beste der Schule von Maracaibo - Ihre Meister und deren Schüler at Galerie Tantow in Berlin in 2007. Emerio Lunar has been exhibited with Henry Bermúdez and Angel Pulgar. Emerio Darío Lunar’s art is in the museum collection, at Galería de Arte Nacional in Caracas.
Emerio Lunar exhibited at the Museo de Arte de Coro in 1991. The prominent critic, Lia Caraballo, noted the elements key to Lunar’s work, such as the female figure, animals, and objects noted the similarity and influence of Giorgio de Chirico and Salvador Dali as well as El Bosco, and Balthus—all of whom engaged in an interior search and created codes in their visual languages while also expressing their interior worlds. The essay also provides an overview of Lunar’s art, focusing particularly on his recreations of masterpieces, such as Mona Lisa and Leda and the Swan by Leonardo da Vinci, which illustrates the influence of noted Renaissance artists on Lunar. Caraballo discusses other characteristics of Lunar’s painting as well, including astonishingly still and seemingly melancholy figures. Exploring space, Lunar builds amazing settings conceived as structures of planes in perspective that would later inspire and influence Venezuelan artists, such as Julio Pacheco Rivas and Pancho Quilici. Caraballo connects Lunar’s later works with everyday objects to René Magritte’s strain of Surrealism. Finally, the theme of the female figure was central throughout Lunar’s oeuvre remaining unchanged during his creative process.

Italian Modernist Surrealist Architecture Landscape Oil Painting Lazzaro Donati
By Lazzaro Donati
Located in Surfside, FL
Lazzaro Donati (Italian, 1926-1977)
Oil on board. Colorful Architectural Italian Landscape. Porto Azzurro, 1964
Hand signed upper right. signed, titled on back of panel.
Dimensions: (Frame) H 37" x W 29", (Panel) H 27" x W 19"
Lazzaro Donati was born in Florence and attended the Academy of Fine Arts. He began to paint in 1953, and in 1955 held his first exhibition at the Indiano Gallery in Florence. Within three years eleven exhibitions followed in Italy, and as his reputation grew he was invited to give major exhibitions in London, Paris, New York, Chicago, Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo. He is considered one of the foremost contemporary Italian painters and his paintings hang in museums and private collections throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia. His work is recalling the works of the french Raoul Dufy, Dunoyer de Segonzac, Francois Gall and Jean Jansem. This particular work is reminiscent of the work of Manolo Valdes. Donati lived and worked at 24 Piazza Donatello in Florence, the square where generations of artists have created works worthy of the great Florentine tradition. As you entered the narrow hallway to his studio, a gilded life-size Venetian angel beckoned you to his door. Once inside, the present faded away and you found yourself in an atelier where early masters might have worked during the Renaissance. Within, luxurious Persian rugs set off the innumerable objects d’art and antique furnishings...

Surrealist Painting By Charles Oscar American Circa 1956
By Charles Oscar
Located in Hudson, NY
A rare piece to be found. Due to his early demise the number of works available by this artist are limited. His work can be found in every major collection in the United States. He was a Guggenheim Fellow, Museum of Modern Art Curator and rising Futurist Artist who was murdered in his New York apartment in 1961 when he was only 38 years old.
Titled "Hypnerotomachia", the name means 'the act of falling in love in a dream'. This amazing and rare piece was created just one year after his success with exhibiting at the Venice Biennale of 1956. Semi-abstract composition and very dream like. This painting retains the original carved and gilded Hydenryk frame and has been professionally cleaned and conserved.
