Dutch artist Erik van Elven is not the person to 'think in terms of limitations'. He sees beauty in everything and an opportunity to make it “his own subject”. With an eye-catching technique and a high degree of love for the oil paint he works with. The love for paint seems to determine what is painted and how it is done. Colorful narrative paintings. However, the paintings are more than what the first glance reveals.
Whatever subject the artist uses to create a painting, one thing is always the same. In all paintings you can see the 'dancing' of the brush and the love for 'the paint'. He himself says about this:
“Oil paint is alive, seems to talk to you. The longer you paint, the more feeling it gives.”
