A charming and fresh portrait of the musician and composer standing in front of Mendips, the house where he was mostly raised by his mother's sister Mimi, with his aunt standing behind him holding her large ginger and white cat, Timmy, that he grew up with. Signed lower left, 'S. Bower'; additionally inscribed with dedication verso 'To Mrs. Smith - Best Wishes, S. Bower', titled 'John Lennon with his Aunt Mimi and Tim at Mendips' and dated October 1982. This listed English plein-air painter, attended Manchester College of Art from 1970 to 1974 and currently lives in Totnes, Devon. He describes himself as "a colorist who is inspired by flower gardens, especially English cottage gardens in early summer. Signed lower right, 'Anton Sipos' (Bosnian-American, born 1938) and dated 1974. A substantial Impressionist oil painting showing two young women relaxing in a sunny garden with a peacock and a peahen. Born in Bosnia, Anton Sipos began drawing at an early age and left home in his teens to work as a film animation artist. He achieved immediate success with his first work, "Surrogate", which won an Academy Award for best-animated short subject under the direction of Yugoslav animator Dushon VuKotic. In 1964, Sipos moved to Montmartre to study at the École de Paris. During this early period, Sipos exhibited widely and with success including at the Salon d'Automne and Le Salon d'Artistes Françaises. While in France, he made numerous painting trips to Provence, Giverny, Rouen and the Cote d'Azur as well as to Italy. In 1970, Sipos arrived in California where he painted landscapes of Los Angeles and marine scenes of the harbor in San Diego. He also worked as an artist for the film industry, most notably with Eleanor Ettinger Studio in New York where he was given the responsibility of transferring Norman Rockwell...
