Gerrit Wijngaarden (1936, Dedgum) is a self-taught artist. At first he only painted still lives, Gerrit Wijngaarden began to paint trompe l’oeuils, portraits, landscapes, interiors, ‘magic-realistic’ imaginaries. The red thread in his work is formed by silence, together with some sort of threat or melancholy, on the background or foreground. With his still lives the abstract values are important, like colour, form, composition, contrast and substance expression. In the landscapes and interiors, you can find the sense of life of the artist. Gerrit Wijngaarden exhibites regularly and makes free work and commissioned work.
