His color palette explores various harmonies yet always surprises with new color excitement. Years of working with the woodcut print can be seen in Marc’s concise clarity of form and texture. His botanical world was initially inspired by the French artists; Henry Rousseau and Paul Gaugin. Painting journeys to the island of Kauai fueled Marc’s passion for the jungle series, lasting over 12 years. Marc Zimmerman
I have painted since 1980, starting with watercolor. Then on to woodcut ,collage and now for 30 years oil and acrylic. Mentored from 1981-89, Phil Dike, considered the father of the California school of watercolor. Self taught from then on, I went into sculpture in stone and bronze and now ceramic. Today I create and run my own gallery in Carmel by the sea.

Provenance:
"Winter" was originally purchased by Stanley Byer. Mr. Byer owned homes in Key West, New York City, and Washington, D.C. He purchased the painting from Dunning Auction in 1984 in Elgin, Illinois. Mr. Byer was related to Abraham Weiss from Florida. Saul Babbin, now deceased was a cousin of Mr. Weiss. I purchased the painting from Joy Babbin, Mr. Babbin's wife, now living in from New Mexico.
Dale Nichols (1905 – 1995) Artist, printmaker, illustrator, watercolorist, designer, writer and lecturer, Nichols did paintings that reflected his rural background of Nebraska where he was born in David City, a small town.
