About the Item

The main green gardening show in Milan, stimulated Margherita Leoni to create her first screen. Using her painterly skills, the artist designed and created a self-supporting, zig zag screen, a unique, exclusive piece of furniture, painted with her usual skill, aesthetics, technique and innovative elegance. The artwork illustrates a thistle, with its rich and auspicious symbolism. The inspiration dates back to last summer, during walks in Corsica, whose Mediterranean landscape offers many species. The wood used is guaranteed to be strong, and immune to moisture. The back of the screen is white. *** Interpreting reality with skill and expertise is Margherita Leoni's principal value. She has been studying botany for decades and has an incredible hand that allows her to make watercolour paintings in plein air, even when they are particularly big. She has long complemented her watercolors with oil paintings on a gold background, or watercolors and tempera on paper prepared with pure gold, which she then mounted on canvas. Due to her sophisticated, innovative and mature style, Margherita Leoni is considered the best Italian botanical artist. Margherita Leoni was born and raised in Italy. However, she spent most of her adult life in São Paulo, Brazil. There, she started collaborating with the botanical faculty of the local university, allowing her to develop exciting research in rare botanical species studies and drawings. For this reason, most of her artworks illustrate Brazilian botanical species, both rare and common. The artist's watercolour mastery allows her to participate in botanical expeditions, where she paints in plein air. S also collaborates with many botanical gardens, where she holds watercolour courses. With her exquisite technique and extensive botanical knowledge, Margherita Leoni is Margaret Mee's heir. In 2014, Shirley Sherwood selected three of her artworks for the Kew Garden exhibition (London, "Botanical Artists of the Third Millennium," 2014). In 2016, her artworks were exhibited at Renzo Piano's Museum, MUSE, where she participated in a solo temporary exhibition. She counts dozens of invitations to institutional solo exhibitions. She also works under commission.

Mighty oak on a gold-leaf background by Italian botanical artist
By Margherita Leoni
Located in Milan, IT
The artist has an elegant mark of nature, and the experience of working en plein air allows her to capture emotions that would otherwise not be possible. She is considered Italy's best botanical artist and collaborates with many botanical gardens where she also holds watercolour courses, a technique she masters like few contemporary artists. The artist herself prepared the background in real, stainless gold, which gives it a modern, warm surface that chameleonically matches the colours of the surrounding walls. Margherita Leoni was born and raised in Italy, however, she spent most of her adult life in San Paulo, Brazil. It was there that she started a collaboration with the botanical faculty of the local university, allowing her to develop interesting research in rare botanical species studies and drawings. For this reason, most of her artworks, illustrate Brasilian botanical species, both rare and common. The artist's mastery of watercolour allows her to take part in botanical expeditions where she paints in plein air. Given her exquisite watercolour technique and her extensive botanical knowledge, Margherita Leoni is considered the heir of Margaret Mee. Among her most important exhibitions, three of her artworks were selected by Shirley Sherwood...
