A very beautiful and original antique painting, depicting these playful cherubim. The work is typical of the French Rococo style that emerged during the 18th century by artists such as Fragonard and Francois Boucher.
Presented in this highly ornate scrolled gilt frame, with oyster shell mouldings to the cornices, the shape of the frame would have been designed to fit over a doorway and it was indeed hung in this position by the former owner from whom we acquired the painting. One of our photos shows the painting in its former home, a magnificent 16th century chateau in the South of France.
Condition report:
The painting is in very presentable condition. The frame has a former former repairs but is very elegant and presentable.
