"Girl With a Rose" is a quintessential example of Yaroslava Tichshenko's maturing style. Effortless, swift, whimsical brushstrokes capture the youthfulness and sensuality of the model, who is trying to hold the robe slipping off her shoulder and looking directly at the viewer. Her pale skin contrasts beautifully with the cool blue background and dark curly hair. Yaroslava's work is combines the ease, vibrance and spontaneity of impressionists and post-impressionists with the achievements of the highly technical Soviet school of painting, underpinned by solid drawing skills and a serious attitude towards the model. This symbiosis has become crucial in her depiction of people as many of her portraits demonstrate. Lively, daring, and bold, Yaroslava is unable to paint in any other manner. The energetic decorativeness of her work is intensified by the outstanding draughtsmanship and psychological honesty typical of her work. Yaroslava Tichshenko studied painting professionally for 11 years, including a rigorous 6-year program at the world-famous Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, Russia, from which she graduated in 2016. She now lives and works in Almaty, Kazakhstan and holds exhibitions locally and internationally, including countries like Japan, China, UK and Russia to name a few. Yaroslava has exhibited at such prestigious venues as the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London.
