Frances Thayer Robbins
Mid Century Modern artist and first Miss Atlanta (Georgia)
Atlanta native Frances Thayer Robbins whose rise to Atlanta fame was heralded in 1923 when, out of over 200 applicants, Miss Frances Thayer won first place in the first Miss Atlanta Pageant. That same year, she met her future husband and MAP coordinator, Bert Robbins.
She taught art classes at Atlanta and founded the Bulkhead Artists Guild in the 1950's. She held many fairs and exhibited nationwide. The Thayer family traces their lineage to the earlies pilgrim settlers, from Glouchester, England; disembarking. the Mayflower at Plymouth Rock in 1620.
