About the Item

Dreams, with their ephemeral and often surreal qualities, can be a guide in creating artwork that explores the unexpected. "Wild Ride of the Dream Chaser" depicts a moment from a vibrant dream set within a lush and dense forest environment. The forest is characterized by tall, slender trees with trunks that stretch skyward, enveloped by a rich tapestry of green foliage. A red horse gallops wildly through the scene accompanied by a woman clutching the fiery mane while wind born sparks trail behind. The horse embodies freedom and passion, a moment of wild, untamed beauty, inviting those who gaze upon it to experience a sense of wonder and liberation. The backdrop of this enchanting forest is awash with serene blue and purple hues, casting a mystical ambiance over the entire piece. This careful blend of colors adds depth to the background and infuses the scene with a magical, almost otherworldly atmosphere. Light and shadow dance across the canvas, contributing to an ethereal quality that pulls the viewer deeper into the enchanting landscape. This interplay draws the viewer into a moment that seems suspended in time—a realm where dreams and reality merge. The composition captures a sense of wildness and unbridled imagination, reflective of its origins in a vivid dream, inviting those who gaze upon it to experience a sense of wonder and liberation. My technique is typified by working in layers of paint. This method allows me to build depth and texture, enhancing the ethereal and magical atmosphere of each piece. The layering process adds complexity and richness to the scene, transporting viewers into a dream-like world, where the boundary between reality and imagination blurs. This 30 inch by 40 inch artwork is painted on linen on 1 ½ inch stretchers. It is gallery wrapped with hand painted edges, suitable for framing or beautiful left as is. It is wired with finger friendly wire, ready for hanging. Katherine Kean’s paintings seek moments of breath-taking transition in nature; a gathering of clouds or changing tides; times when the elements of the landscape combine with the alchemy of imagination to illuminate the world of heightened mood and sensation. Her work aims to capture these fleeting moments in time and reveal the serene center that can arise amid nature's turbulence, providing a visually and emotionally rich experience. She has exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States and has been acquired by many private and corporate collections. She has been honored to have her work selected for Bloomingdales in Santa Monica, California, Schiffer's 100 Artists of the West Coast II, Paint America's Paint the Parks, Manhattan Arts Healing Arts International's Celebrate the Healing Power of Ar,t, the National Weather Center 2015 Biennale, and the Dreams, with their ephemeral and often surreal qualities, can be a guide in creating artwork that explores the unexpected. The Smallest Event Unfolds Like a Fate, surrealist landscape oil painting
By Eileen Murphy
Located in New York, NY
Eileen Murphy’s paintings on panels are a mirage of disparate memories. Lived experience, borrowed art historical footnotes, and imagery drawn from literary references swirl together and coalesce into shimmering sylvan scenes. Allusions to Patinir, Jacob von Ruisdael, Frederick Church, lines pulled from Rilke, and Murphy’s own personal history emerge deftly from the same brushstroke. The result is images that are simultaneously foreign and familiar, deeply intimate yet shared in a common vernacular. Murphy builds these compositions from layers of carefully applied oil paint, her brushstrokes growing increasingly specific and nuanced with each new stratum. Because she works on panel, the pigment is not absorbed into the material, but rather, sits atop the surface, the color remaining fully saturated. Without this anchoring effect, Murphy’s landscapes become lofty and voluminous, further intensifying their surrealist quality. Eileen Murphy has spent her life along the Hudson River and has lived in Brooklyn, NY for the last seventeen years. Her current paintings are based on the landscape of Columbia County...
