An early work by American impressionist Aldro T. Hibbard, “Venice, 1914." Painted during his travels abroad, Hibbard renders sunlit stone, weathered boats, and the figures of local fishermen with rich texture and painterly confidence. The scene glows with warm Mediterranean tones, offering a glimpse of Italy through the eyes of a young master soon to become a pillar of the Rockport School. Signed lower left and dated 1914, this is a significant and desirable example of Hibbard’s early European period.
