Harbour Ripples is a highly textured painting inspired by morning light at Falmouth Harbour. It was created by abstracting textures observed in the scene using an acrylic medium with granular additives such as marble dust and sand. A limited palette of oil colours was then applied to highlight textures and illuminate the painting.
Alison Groom is an artist based in London at Wimbledon Art Studios. In her work she is concerned with texture and light. She uses acrylic mediums with granular additives applied with various tools to express the textures she observes in the environment. Oil colour is then applied to define and illuminate her paintings. Alison is fascinated by changes in the colour of light at different times of the day and enjoys early morning and late afternoon light as well as the colours of sunset and the gloaming. Alison is especially inspired by water. Some of her favourite places include the coasts of Suffolk, Essex, Devon and Cornwall, West Sussex,Skye, the Lake District and London viewed from the river Thames.
