About the Item

Forest Wisdom [2020] Original Landscape Acrylic on canvas Image size: H:61 cm x W:61 cm Complete Size of Unframed Work: H:61 cm x W:61 cm x D:3.5cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look This painting celebrates the beautiful woods near my home in the Peak District during Summer, walking here is a joy. Sun rays filter through the leafy glade merging with flowers and grasses expressed with abstract marks in the foreground. An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on a deep edged canvas so no need for a frame. I use impasto techniques applied with a palette knife in multi layers, which creates a contemporary painting and if you look closely you can see the first layers applied in places. Amanda Horvath is a contemporary artist who is influenced by the woods and moors of her home in the Peak District. Achieving a B A Hons (first class) in fine art Amanda went on to lecture in painting and printmaking. Now working full time as an artist from her studio her paintings are informed by the wild landscapes of her home. Renowned for forest scenes Amanda’s paintings are full of colour, texture and contrast, with an emphasis on delicate light effects and dramatic shadows. “I have a close connection to the natural world and painting is a response to the beautiful landscape, I attempt to capture the spirit of the land and the ethereal quality of light filtering through woodlands. Through my work I hope to impart the sense of peace and meditative calm I feel in these quiet places. This affinity with nature has grown from childhood and my past experiences” An important part of the creative process is to be absorbed in nature, so it begins with walking in the landscape making preliminary notes. These form the foundations of the work translated onto canvas in the studio. Harnessing some optical mixing techniques the paintings are created with layer upon layer of highly textured paint, worked expressively using palette knives and brushes, which results in paintings that lie somewhere between abstraction and realism. Her work has found homes with private collectors worldwide.

Forest Meditations, Original Painting

Artist Comments
Artist Candice Eisenfeld draws inspiration from the silhouetted trees of the rainforests of Northern Georgia. "One early morning as the fog was clearing, a hawk guided me through the mountains," shares Candice. "The hawk led me through ethereal, meditative places with overwhelming beauty." She took photographs of her journey and painted her experiences of the adventure. "The bottom image depicts the rough, beginning of the journey and the scene portrays the ending. The rough, orange texture denotes the bark of the trees."

About the Artist
As an American exploring issues of identity, artist Candice Eisenfeld paints through the lens of the first American art movement, the Hudson River School. Rather than depicting a specific locale, Candice’s artwork evokes a sense of place. These "inner landscapes" are invented, and often reference photographs taken during travels in southern Appalachia and the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains. Whether real or imagined, her paintings are influenced by the Dutch Masters, Tonalists, and Chinese painting. Produced on a single wooden panel, the ethereal landscapes are often joined with segments of aqueous color fields which act as commentary for the landscapes, like the chorus in a Greek play. The crisp, hard edges separating the landscapes from the color fields command a sense of order in an otherwise fluid and painterly surface. With two or three sections of the panel competing for attention, the painting creates multiple focal points. Candice's art has been displayed in embassies in Namibia and Belarus, held in the collections of Norwest Bank and Northwest...
