André Petroff naquit à Saint-Petersbourg en 1894, il étudia avec Bilibine et Roerich. Par la suite en 1920 à Paris, il fut inscrit à l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris, dans l'atelier de Cormon. A partir de 1923 il s'installa à Nice où il effectua l'essentiel de sa carrière de peintre.
