Condition: As is normal with unframed works on paper there are some minor old creases or paper edge curls/ tears - all of which should be covered over or smoothed out once framed; generally very good and sound.
Provenance: as with all the works we have by this artist, it has come from the artists estate in France.
Description: A dreamlike view of the French or Swiss Alps, this Mid-20th Century watercolour captures the essence of a sweeping mountain valley with a distinctly expressive hand. Painted in a fresh and intuitive palette, Anne Marie Migette Perard’s composition blends Post-Impressionist structure with spontaneous colour flourishes to evoke the sensation of crisp alpine air and undulating terrain.
The foreground is dotted with rhythmic groupings of trees, their deep greens and soft browns laid down in gestural washes, while rolling hills and snowy peaks rise in layers of lavender, ultramarine, and icy blue. Soft-edged strokes and water-lifted texture give the work an almost atmospheric perspective—fog and distance melting into colour. Bright bursts of yellow and coral pink suggest spring blooms or afternoon sun glancing off meadows and pathways, while the scattered shapes of orange-roofed dwellings in the distance add a human trace without disturbing the sense of solitude.
Perard’s use of abstraction here allows emotion to lead the eye. The painting doesn’t ask to be interpreted literally—it invites the viewer to feel immersed in a landscape caught halfway between memory and imagination.
