About the Item
Title: Mid-20th Century Post-Impressionist Pastel Landscape with Cows Grazing
by Anne Marie Migette Perard (French 1902-1977)
Medium: Pastel on unframed paper
Size: 6.25 inches (height) x 9.5 inches (width)
Condition: As is normal with unframed works on paper there are some minor old creases or paper edge curls/ tears - all of which should be covered over or smoothed out once framed; generally very good and sound.
Provenance: as with all the works we have by this artist, it has come from the artists estate in France.
Description: This gentle and idyllic Mid-20th Century pastel by Anne Marie Migette Perard captures a luminous rural landscape with an elegant balance of colour, texture, and light. In the foreground, a sunlit green field stretches across the composition, dotted with small herds of cows grazing in shades of black, brown, and white. The grouping of animals is almost miniature in scale, creating a sense of vastness and tranquillity in the surrounding countryside.
To the left, soft blue hills rise in the distance, while rows of slender, vertical trees in warm autumnal tones—russet, gold, and green—create a natural screen between field and forest. On the right, a dense cluster of trees bursts with richly layered tones: peacock blue, indigo, ochre, and vermilion, bringing a bold contrast to the open space on the left.
Rendered in Perard’s characteristic loose and expressive pastel strokes, this piece balances spontaneity with structure. Her use of colour to evoke emotion and atmosphere rather than strict realism is a hallmark of her post-impressionist approach, giving the work a poetic, almost dreamlike quality.
A charming pastoral study with timeless appeal, perfect for collectors who appreciate intimate landscapes with a painterly and expressive touch.

20th century figurative landscape oil on cardboard painting by Polish artist Magdalena Spasowicz. Artwork is in classic style, it resembles impressionism. Composition is painted with wide brush strokes. Colors are muted. Artwork depicts a rural landscape with cow laying on the grass.
MAGDALENA SPASOWICZ Studied painting under prof. Jan Cybis and graphic arts with prof. Tadeusz Kulisiewicz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She received her diploma in 1953. Her works have been presented in numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad, among others in Warsaw, London, New York, Bratislava, Washington, Moscow, Berlin, Budapest, and are to be found in private and public collections around the world. In 2017 two individual exhibition of the artists took place - at the Regional Museum in Kozienice Palace and at the Museum of Western Mazowsze in Zyrardow. Magdalena Spasowicz has been spending every single moment on painting for many years now. Most of her paintings are monochromatically coloured landscapes, of places where eye cheers soul with a sight close to heart, known and well remembered. French painting of Pissarro and Utrillo has been a very important inspiration for Magdalena Spasowicz. A desire to still-frame every moment when the artist meets Nature and beloved places is an imperative, which obliges to come back to canvas and paint, paint with a total devotion. The artistry of the places represented in the paintings of Magdalena...

late 20th century colorful pastel pastoral landscape field trees sky signed
By Peggy Leonard
Located in Milwaukee, WI
"Orchard View-Small Version (Dr. Johnson's Rims Edge Orchard)" is an original pastel drawing signed by the artist Peggy Leonard. It depicts an orchard in various bright cool tones.
9" x 12" art
14 3/4" x 17 3/4" frame
Peggy Leonard received her BFA in painting and drawing and an associate’s degree in nursing from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She is both a registered nurse, and accomplished artist, residing in Milwaukee, WI.
From the artist:
“These paintings are my prayers,” muses Leonard, reflecting on her driving need to express herself through her art. “We are made of the stuff that requires us to respond with our hearts and hands. Often, it requires terrible sacrifice and suffering, something not everyone can understand. But it is done with reverence of life, not irreverence.”
Leonard’s pastels and oil paintings capture her reverence of life and reflect her own life’s journey, including earlier forays into the wilderness. Her venture into art began in early childhood, as childless neighbors nurtured her natural ability to draw; concurrently, Leonard’s parents instilled a respect for academic excellence and the higher order of nurturing others.
As a young nurse, Leonard “heard and saw poignant messages to travel while one was young and free…while one had one’s health.” Consequently, she took to the open road and public lands, camping across America for months at a time. During these years, her “celebration of the natural splendor of this country” helped shape her sense of artistic expression. She was moved by such sights as the sunset on St. Mary’s Lake...
