About the Item

Title: British Impressionist Watercolor of Country Road Leading to Farm Buildings by Anthony Avery (British 1946-2023) Original watercolor on artists paper, unframed Dimensions: 11.25 x 15 inches (Height x Width) Condition: Good, with some minor signs of aging. Provenance: from a large collection of this artists work, held in England. Description: This expressive watercolour by Anthony J. Avery depicts a rural landscape, with a winding country road drawing the viewer's eye towards a set of distinctive farm buildings under a vast, brooding sky. The sky dominates the composition with layered clouds in shades of gray, purple, and muted yellow, capturing the turbulent beauty of changing weather. Two traditional oast house buildings, characterized by their pointed rooftops, stand against the sky, evoking a quintessentially English countryside scene. The road, flanked by bare trees and fields, adds a sense of depth and leads viewers into the painting, enhancing its atmospheric quality. Avery’s use of loose brushwork and soft washes creates a moody and contemplative scene, perfect for those who appreciate the quiet drama and beauty of rural landscapes under a shifting sky.
