About the Item
This contemporary landscape painting by Carol Young features a cool, vibrant painting and a horizontal format. It depicts small cottages with light, warm purple roof tops under a pink sky, and surrounded by green foliage and grass. The small houses cast stark violet shadows across the grass. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right-hand corner, and has clean, natural exposed wood sides. It is wired and ready to hang.
"These little cottages live in Clinton, Connecticut," the artist says. "They are small and sweet. I loved the way the sunlight was hitting their roofs and creating such interesting shadows. I took a photo and made this painting in my studio. I thought the long format worked really well with the subject."
Carol C. Young is a plein air landscape painter as well as a studio artist whose work is primarily identified by a bold use of light and shadow along with iconic depictions of the rural landscape. She tends to select subjects that hold history, particularly gravitating toward those found in American rural landscapes. A fine arts major at the College of New Rochelle, NY, her paintings have won several awards including best in show at the Pequot Library Art show in Connecticut, first place in the acrylic division at the Rowayton Arts Center Brushwork Show in CT, and second place for acrylics/oils at the Mary O. Fritchie Art Show in Westhampton Beach, NY.
“My technique is spontaneous," Carol says of her work. "I want to capture the moment in my painting, intrigued by the patterns created by sunlight, shadows and shapes at that time of day."
