About the Item
A fresh spring green meadow is dotted with blue bachelor buttons, buttercups and a profusion of prancing white daisies. An abundance of wildflowers in an array of pastels scatter across the field. This naturalistic oil painting evokes the gentleness of nature, the calming effect of a gaze at the butterflies hovering over the petals. a hummingbird darting among the blossoms or bumblebees buzzing about. The uneven low rock wall lines a path which takes us farther into the wild meadow for a closer look at the flowers and the wood beyond. Doctors often suggest that anxious patients take walks in nature to soothe their fraying nerves. Here is a painting that substitutes for that walk.
This serene painting by fine artist Carole Garland is a reminder to her of her youth visiting her cousins on a farm in Northern Wisconsin. They would ramble through the meadow exploring and looking for wild raspberries for homemade jam or wildflowers for the kitchen table. Garland brings a gentle brush and muted
palette sprinkled with glowing colors to this calming work.

Carole Garland
Carole Garland, born and raised in Chicago, graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., She studied figure drawing and oil painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of the Americas, Mexico City. After moving to Los Angeles she studied privately with Keith Finch, Venice. Concurrent with her art pursuits, Garland worked as a magazine editor, publicist, director's assistant, book editor, and sales executive. After a brief hiatus from painting, she looked to the outdoors for inspiration and began plein air watercolor studies with Don Blaisdell, UCLA.

A quiet street of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is the subject of this painting by Carole Garland. An elderly woman cautiously makes her way along a narrow path using a tree to lend support. The orange wall provides much needed shade in the afternoon heat. Light seeps through the branches of a colorful bougainvillea patterning the orange bulwark.
Artist Carole Garland who studied art in both San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City shares her appreciation of the simplicity of this quiet backstreet in a Mexican town. A special moment in time is brought to life. Garland uses the scumbling technique and a paint laden palette knife to achieve texture and depth in the leaves, the branches and the rough pavement of the street.
This oil on wood panel is 16"x20" and its natural wood sides serve as a frame. The painting is wired for easy hanging. This is a stand-alone artwork but was conceived as a companion piece to Orange Wall of San Miguel #1. Together they are 16"x 40".
