Last Light on Geary is a striking 48 x 48 inch oil painting on canvas by San Francisco-based artist Christina Kent. The painting captures the fleeting glow of sunset in downtown San Francisco. Looking west along Geary Street, the painting juxtaposes the cool blue tones of early evening with the warm, golden light of the setting sun as it touches select buildings, casting long shadows and illuminating architectural details with a soft radiance.
Hints of movement and life animate the scene—cars reflect the shifting light, blurred street signs and lamps glow subtly, and a red traffic light pulses gently against the blue-gray palette of the street. The interplay of light and shadow across the layered urban forms creates a strong sense of depth and atmosphere.
Painted with expressive brushwork and subtle texture, this piece offers a contemplative and cinematic view of the city, where the structured geometry of urban life meets the ephemeral beauty of natural light.

Christina Kent is a full-time figurative painter working primarily in oils. A former PhD economist, Kent's transition to painting was catalyzed by a realization that the rational economic lens was insufficient to capture the profound complexity inherent in human experience. Through her paintings she reflects on the subtle nuances hidden in mundane moments of everyday life. Kent has exhibited at Studio Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Arc Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Inclusions Gallery, San Francisco, CA; and Pence Gallery, Davis, CA; among others. In 2023, Kent was awarded the Emerging Artist Award from Pence Gallery and had her first solo show there in 2024. She was also selected to be a 2024 Artist in Residence at both the Chalk Hill and Pouch Cove artist residencies. Kent currently lives and works in San Francisco, California.
