About the Item
From Potrero to the Bay is a luminous diptych by Christina Kent, capturing the layered beauty of San Francisco’s cityscape as seen from Potrero Hill. Each of the two panels (48 x 12 inches) forms a vertical slice of the urban view, together measuring 48 x 24 inches in total. The composition looks out toward the Bay Bridge and Mission Bay neighborhood, bathed in the final golden light of day.
The setting sun casts warm hues on the bridge and select rooftops, while the rest of the city slips into cool blue shadow, creating a compelling interplay of temperature and tone. The rhythmic diagonal lines of rooftops draw the viewer’s gaze upward through the composition, while the bridge’s towers subtly mirror the diptych format—visually anchoring the scene with balance and grace.
Painted on wood panel with natural exposed edges, this piece is wired and ready to hang. The paintings are signed on the reverse, and a certificate of authenticity is available upon request. Christina Kent is a full-time figurative painter working primarily in oils. A former PhD economist, Kent's transition to painting was catalyzed by a realization that the rational economic lens was insufficient to capture the profound complexity inherent in human experience. Through her paintings she reflects on the subtle nuances hidden in mundane moments of everyday life. Kent has exhibited at Studio Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Arc Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Inclusions Gallery, San Francisco, CA; and Pence Gallery, Davis, CA; among others. In 2023, Kent was awarded the Emerging Artist Award from Pence Gallery and had her first solo show there in 2024. She was also selected to be a 2024 Artist in Residence at both the Chalk Hill and Pouch Cove artist residencies. Kent currently lives and works in San Francisco, California.
