Christopher Sanders was born in Wakefield in 1905, he attended Wakefield school of Art (1922-19240, Leeds School of Art (1924-1926), The Royal College of Art (1926-1929)
Exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1930's awards. He won a gold medal at the Paris Salon in 1956
Initially he worked as a commercial artist designing the Bird's custard lable and designs for the London Underground.
Its as a landscape painter and portraitist that he is best known. he also had successful solo exhibitions in New York.
He was elected a Royal Academician in 1961, Senior Royal Academician in 1981.
His work is in many Gallery and Museum collections.
Sanders obituary was published in the Daily Telegraph (07/08/1991).

Christopher Sanders
Christopher Sanders was born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, in 1905. He studied at Wakefield School of Art, Leeds School of Art and the Royal College of Art. Sanders initially earned a living working as a commercial artist designing the logo for Birds Custard and patterns for the upholstery in London Underground trains and as an illustrator working on several of the Janet and John books. Sanders also taught for some years at the Harrow School of Art and St Albans School of Art. However, it is as a landscape and portrait painter that Sanders is best known. He exhibited frequently and regularly at the Royal Academy from 1933–70. He was elected an associate member of the Royal Academy in 1953, becoming a full member in 1961. In 1956, he won a gold medal at Paris Salon. Sanders was also a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He lived near Slough, Buckinghamshire.

A fine impressionist landscape by the 19th century French painter Loouis Boulanger (1806-1867).
Oil on canvas 15"x21,3/4" 38cmx 55cm
The original giltwood frame: 22"x28" , 56cmx 72cm.
A fine plein air study of a stoney outcrop on the edge of a French village circa 1860. Boulanger was famous during his lifetime for his portraits of the intelligentsia of Paris society during the 19th century including Victor Hugo.
He was also a great follower of the early impressionist landscape painters this being a fine example of his work.
A well balanced composition and an intense study of afternoon light in a French landscape.
