About the Item

This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. Panorama Static is Daniel Castan’s abstracted cityscape at its most distilled — sharp-edged yet softened by atmosphere, a place simultaneously vast and quiet. Painted in oil on canvas, this futuristic skyline floats in cobalt and ivory, a ghostly metropolis suspended between clarity and blur. It feels like the silence just before a storm or the stillness of a city viewed from memory. The colour palette is dominated by cool blues and icy whites, with flickers of orange-red in the distance — like distant brake lights or windows lit in the early evening. Castan’s palette knife work is vigorous and layered, giving the scene a sculptural presence that contrasts with its ethereal light. In Panorama Static, Castan portrays more than a place — he captures a state of mind. It is a meditation on space, light, and motion, frozen in an abstract echo. The city becomes a pattern, a pulse, a presence that lingers even after you’ve left. Artist Biography: Born in 1959 in Dordogne, Daniel Castan draws from a very young age. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Bordeaux. When he was 40 years old, he started painting again just for the pure pleasure of it. At age 48, he left everything to follow his dreams. At the beggining of his professional life Daniel Castan travelled a lot to New York and Hong Kong. He had a special fascination for the urban world and their exaggerated perspectives. In his paintings, he tries to recreate these graphic environments. The lines of the buildings get lost in the sky, the long avenues seem endless, the colors collide. The artist works direclty from his memories and imagination. Daniel Castan chose to paint with alkyd oil. This kind of oil works just like classical oil, but the binder in it, is a kind of resin that allows accelerated drying. His favorite tool is the knife, it allows him to work with paste, and to draw in different materials.

Jam City - Original Abstract Landscape Oil Painting Cityscape on Canvas
By Ekaterina Ermilkina
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Ekaterina Ermilkina’s original, abstract fine art paintings are created using a skillful combination of applying and removing oil paint with a palette knife on canvas. Her inspirations are the expressionistic skylines of big cities like Manhattan, Philadelphia, or Chicago filled with colorful skyscrapers. The urban, scenic views are abstracted and rich with vivid and textured layers. Ermilkina’s emotional architectural patchwork and mosaic cityscapes radiate a life of balance and positive energy. This artwork measures 36 inches square. Ermilkina carefully adds thick cube-like dots of oil paint with a palette knife in distinct patterns onto the surface, adding an intricate three-dimensional texture to her oil paintings. The color spots partially blend into a fuller range of background tones and give the artworks a significant depth. She signs the front of the artwork and paints the sides as a continuation of the front. It does not require framing. It is wired and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Born in 1975, Saratov, Russia, Ekaterina Ermilkina now lives and works in New Jersey. She grew up in the beautiful city of Yalta in Crimea on the North coast of the Black Sea, where in 1985 she enrolled as a student to the School of Art of F.Vasiliev, graduating in 1991. After her first introduction to fine art in Yalta, in 1992, Ekaterina Ermilkina moved to Saint-Petersburg, Russia. In 1998 she received her MFA from State Art and Industry Academy. The unique beauty and rich culture of the city inspired her to paint cityscapes. In late 2005, Ermilkina moved to the U.S. Her works has been presented in various solo and group exhibitions in international galleries and art fairs and have been collected throughout the United States, as well as Canada, Germany, France, Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, and Russia. Her artworks pop with color and motion, casting a candied haze across the urban landscape. “I am focused on art all my life. It makes me optimistic, full of energy and happy. The vivid colors of Crimea where I grew up, the beautiful marine of the Black Sea, inspired me to paint for the rest of my life. I believe that paintings can reflect our desires for beauty, poetics and perfection.” Artspace Warehouse has been representing and exhibiting Ekaterina Ermilkina's original oil paintings since 2013.
