Description:
A luminous and atmospheric oil painting by David James, capturing the serene majesty of moonlight on tranquil waters. Executed in a rich, monochromatic sepia palette, this piece exudes timeless elegance and tonal harmony. A solitary fishing vessel rests in the foreground, gently anchored in reflective shallows, while distant sails and vertical timber posts echo a rhythm of balance and solitude. The soft diffusion of light across the clouds and water evokes a meditative calm, making this an ideal statement piece for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
A work of understated beauty and poetic stillness, this painting invites the viewer into a quietly sublime maritime world.
David James was born in London in 1944 and moved to Outer London in the fifties. Educated at Hampton School, David James howed an early aptitude for art and won school and national prizes and competitions. James attended Twickenham College of Art from 1962 to 1966 gaining an Intermediate Diploma in Arts and Crafts. With a speciality in wood engraving, three editions of James' prints were sold in 1964. He obtained a National Diploma in Art and Design in 1966. David James began exhibiting at open-air shows in 1963 whilst still at Art School and was immediately successful.
Original paintings by David James attracted the attention of a leading Fine Art publisher; a reproduction published in 1969 sold well, entitled "Slow Water" - this was published by Rosenstiels. Nowadays, much of the work by David James is sold abroad; there are examples of James paintings in all European countries and North America, South America, China, Russia, Japan, India, New Zealand, Australia, the Middle East and Greenland.
David currently lives in Sussex on the coast, within reach of the South Downs. He is married to an artist and has three children. Much of the inspiration for the work executed by James is drawn from the Lake District, Devon and Cornwall, and the Welsh Countryside. David has exhibited his works at the Royal Academy and in leading provincial galleries. A wide range of subjects painted by David is available including landscape, marine and still life paintings.

Fording the River Landscape British Master Nasmyth 19th century Oil Painting
Located in Stockholm, SE
Signed lower right "Nasmyth" leading to one of the whole pleiad of renowned Scottish artists starting with Alexander Nasmyth (1758 -1840). This painting showcases a scene of a landscape with shallow water, where a family is seen wading through a river ford in knee-deep water. The presence of a shepherdess on a high bank, observing the travelers with keen interest, adds a sense of pastoral charm to the composition. One of the focal points of the painting is a picturesque tree that has fallen into the river, adding a touch of drama to the overall scene. The contrast between the lush woodland and bushes on the right side of the foreground and the rolling valley on the left side further enhances the depth and perspective of the painting and superbly illustrates the traditions of the early 19th century British Art...
