Deborah Weiss is a visual artist creating both works on panel and paper. She has exhibited throughout the United States and has been included in several international exhibitions taking place in China, Sweden, Italy, England and Denmark. According to Weiss, "The energy of the natural world is both highly charged and subtle simultaneously. My work is an exploration of the exchange between nature's elements, terrain, plant life and atmosphere. The work begins spontaneously one gesture at a time, editing takes place as the work unfolds. There is a layering and excavation process as I work. Each layer informs the next both concealing and revealing information. As in the natural world randomness and order coexist. As I am working, I am thinking about how I engage and perceive the natural world. It is not usually in a bucolic way. I am processing the energy below, above and and on the earth. On a grand scale I am referencing the fearlessness of waves, winds, seismic shifts. On a micro level I am considering the energy required for a seedling to eventually yield fruit or the softened edges of sea glass as it is tossed around the ocean over time." Weiss’ works are also included in numerous private and corporate collections.

The Orange Wall of San Miguel #2
By Carole Garland
Located in Palm Desert, CA
A quiet street of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is the subject of this painting by Carole Garland. An elderly woman cautiously makes her way along a narrow path using a tree to lend support. The orange wall provides much needed shade in the afternoon heat. Light seeps through the branches of a colorful bougainvillea patterning the orange bulwark.
Artist Carole Garland who studied art in both San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City shares her appreciation of the simplicity of this quiet backstreet in a Mexican town. A special moment in time is brought to life. Garland uses the scumbling technique and a paint laden palette knife to achieve texture and depth in the leaves, the branches and the rough pavement of the street.
This oil on wood panel is 16"x20" and its natural wood sides serve as a frame. The painting is wired for easy hanging. This is a stand-alone artwork but was conceived as a companion piece to Orange Wall of San Miguel #1. Together they are 16"x 40".
Artist Carole Garland has appeared in numerous venues throughout Southern California, including several juried California Art Club exhibits and individual shows at TAG Gallery in Los Angeles. Her work has recently appeared at the West Los Angeles College Art Gallery; the Rose Cafe, Venice; Topanga Canyon Art...
