About the Item
The painting depicts one of the bridges across the Main in Würzburg, the Ludwigbrücke. We look at the motif from the embankment, under the span of the bridge. The age of the bridge is emphasized by the rough texture of the stone from which it is built, the algae at the bottom of the support pile. The arch of the bridge is symmetrically reflected in the rippled water of the Main. On the right side, a boat with a man in a red jacket is sailing. In the distance, on the left, in the opposite direction, a boat with people is also sailing.
On the pile of the bridge there is a mount with a lit lantern, the light of which is reflected by a path in the water. On the far bank on the left, on the top of the hill, is the famous Chapel, built by the architect Balthasar Neumann. On the right, cypresses are lined up in a row. The sky is cloudy, but with a blue gap.
All this, in general, makes up the lyrical motif that inspired the author, who once saw it during a walk and made a quick sketch in a notebook, which became the basis for the painting.
The painting does not have a frame. The sides are not painted. It could decorate a living room, an office, and also a children's room.
