About the Item
Bude Shadows is an Original Painting by Eleanor Woolley Painted in the Artist's Gloucestershire Studio, Bude Shadows is Inspired by a trip to Cornwall last Summer. Photographs were taken and sketches of the beach goers were made on Bude's lovely beach. The bathers can be seen putting up sun shades, digging in the sand and walking off to the waters edge. The brush strokes are impasto style and a palette knife is used sun places, creating thick and fluid movement. Painting on Canvas. Bude Shadows Cornwall Ready to hang. 30cm x 30cm x 2cm. Artist BIO:
Eleanor Woolley was born on the Island of Jersey, and moved to Gloucestershire where she was drawn to the outdoors, always taking walks in the landscape. Her first true love for painting came from an inspirational Art teacher at Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls where she started painting in Oils at thirteen years old. Here she learnt to paint using classic oil painting techniques, and was drawn to the figure from early life drawing lessons. During this period she was fortunate enough to work under Mary Fedden in her studio and with Portrait Sculptor Peter Lambda with whom she further developed her technique and composition. After gaining her BA Hons in Sculpture at Leeds University Eleanor travelled for some time in Asia before coming home to study Furniture making. Eleanor worked as a Cabinet maker and a Restorer before returning to Fine Art painting.
Eleanor’s inspiration is taken from her surroundings where she has a love for the every day things, often passed by without a second thought.
Eleanor’s paintings are vibrant, often painted Plein air and finished in the studio. Starting with bold outlines, many layers of paint are used to create the depth of colour. Her paintings are spontaneous, using washes of oil to create the desired form. Often finishing with a palette knife producing a pleasing texture.
Her current work is inspired by the landscape of the Cotswolds, and contrasted with long shadows created by figures in urban landscapes.

Eleanor Woolley

"Copse" is an oil painting with chalk and graphite on wood panel, and measures 16" high by 12" wide. It is finished with a clear resin across the surface, lending the artwork a particular warmth and liquidity that is rare and lovely to behold. Typical of the artist, the painting is a mystery despite its apparent simplicity – the landscape with trees on the horizon, the wide full sky bearing down with clouds and light. The picture surface is very interesting – drawn lines and painterly brushstrokes to be sure, but note the speed and swift conviction of those brushstrokes. All of it held, as if in time, by the resin layer acting as a lens to both transmit this picture and admit light to the picture. A true artifact.
