Painswick is an Original Oil painting by Eleanor Woolley. This painting was painted Plein Air in the Painswick valley overlooking the town of Painswick. The view is looking across from Edge common, the morning light catching yellows and pinks in the trees. The houses are nestled together, and look almost on top of each other from this view. The hillside beyond slopes beautifully away, slightly obscured by the light. Patches of green, yellow and blue are glimpsed through the mists.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Discover more original artworks by Eleanor Woolley. Eleanor Woolley was born in the Channel Island of Jersey, and moved to Gloucestershire where she was drawn to the outdoors, always taking walks in the landscape. Her first true love for painting came from an inspirational Art teacher at Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls where she started painting in Oils at thirteen years old. Here she learnt to paint using classic oil painting techniques, and was drawn to the figure from early life drawing lessons. During this period she was fortunate enough to work under Mary Fedden in her studio and with Portrait Sculptor Peter Lambda with whom she further developed her technique and composition. After gaining her BA Hons in Sculpture at Leeds University Eleanor travelled for some time in Asia before coming home to study Furniture making. Eleanor worked as a Cabinet maker and a Restorer before returning to Fine Art painting. Eleanor’s inspiration is taken from her surroundings where she has a love for the every day things, often passed by without a second thought. Eleanor’s paintings are vibrant, often painted Plein air and finished in the studio. Starting with bold outlines, many layers of paint are used to create the depth of colour. Her paintings are spontaneous, using washes of oil to create the desired form. Often finishing with a palette knife producing a pleasing texture. Her current work is inspired by the landscape of the Cotswolds, and contrasted with long shadows created by figures in urban landscapes.

Eleanor Woolley
Eleanor Woolley was born in the Channel Island of Jersey and moved to Gloucestershire, where she was drawn to the outdoors, always taking walks in the landscape. A brilliantly executed semi- abstract landscape composition, painted in oil onto board by contemporary British artist Ian Mood.
The artist works in broad, expressive strokes, filling in the urban scene with a cacophony of colour. We see areas of the canvas as well as the artist’s outlines, giving it a very raw quality, emphasising the uncompromising nature of the urban landscape.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary light blue frame with an inner white window that pairs wonderfully with the painting. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.
About the artist:
Ian Mood is a contemporary artist with an international reputation, having shown work with Saatchi London, Brooklyn Art Library, Battersea Art Fair & Manchester Art Fair – as well as being represented by numerous established galleries in the UK and US. He recently held his first solo show in New York.
In 2019, he collaborated as artist in residence with The National Theatre (Madness of George III with Mark Gatiss) and The Royal Exchange Manchester (Mother Courage with Julie Hesmondhalgh).
