Enric Beltrán Messa (Valencia 1940-2006). Contemporary landscape painter based in Beslú (Girona).
He began his artistic training at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia, finishing it at the Sant Jordi School in Barcelona.
In order to further his studies, he undertook several trips to Paris, Rome, Vienna, London...
He held successive exhibitions in Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Terrassa, Banyoles, La Bisbal, Besalú, Torroella de Montgrí, Sabadell, Lloret, Ripoll and Murcia.
He also participated in various competitions in Valencia and Barcelona.
Many of his works are currently in collections in our country and others in Germany, France, the US, Saudi Arabia, etc.
Talking about the life and work of Beltrán Messa pushes us to look at nature and the urban environment. But it is undoubtedly in the first where he feels most comfortable. Classically trained, he conveys equal parts serenity and balance in the manner of Claudio de Lorraine and the innovation represented by the Barbizon School and the Impressionists.
Hidden valleys, streams, mountains, carts drawn by oxen... and Man. The perfect harmony in its natural context. Yellows, greens and ochres are imposed in a well-defined palette that is applied in its pure state or through subtle mixtures to compose life that vibrates in all its splendor. And the sea: very white buildings and boats stranded on the beach bring back memories of a mythical and ancient Mediterranean. A nuanced Luminism transpires in the masterful treatment of light and colour.
The results continue to be surprising when Beltrán Messa steps onto the asphalt of the big city. Barcelona was the artist's favorite model in those cases and, even then, nature was still very present in boulevards full of flowers and in clouds about to rain. The city of Beltrán Messa is a throbbing entity, capable of surpassing the human being that inhabits it. And just like in his rural landscapes, the rain is an essential part of the narrative, with umbrellas that flourish like mushrooms in an environment of devilish traffic from which the only thing missing is the noise of the horns.
Nor does he renounce experimenting with less traditional techniques than oil on canvas. Newsprint cutouts enrich his work with photographic nuances when the collage license is permitted. Sincere art at the service of feelings on the surface of the skin, values of the soul.
