About the Item
This portrait of the famous Dutch Watermill is made by Dutch artist Eric Schutte. The painter painted it, standing in the landscape, en plein air with the watermill (also painted by Vincent van Gogh, see picture) in front of him. Our gallery is placed opposite the house where Vincent van Gogh lived with his parents and made a start as a painter in the middle of Nuenen. The Watermill; 'De Collse Watermolen' is in Nuenen too, and isn't changed at all since the time van Gogh painted it. Now it is painted by Eric Schutte, the same mill but a different approach. The start is exactly the same way, just like van Gogh, standing in front of the mill, en plein air.
Eric Schutte lives and works in Ommen, in the North East of the Netherlands . He describes his art, paintings and sculptures, as Modern Conceptual Realism. Conceptual because he likes to tell you something else besides the beauty of his subject. In the series he made for his solo exhibition it is about 'The Moment' (Momentum).
The use of fresh colors, broad brushstrokes, an an underlying sketch in magenta, beautiful light makes it all very unique and special.

Eric Schutte
Eric Schutte is an artist who makes both conceptual and classical work. He studied at Windesheim University of Applied Sciences in bachelor of education arts in 2001. Schutte says, “The conceptual work consists of a figurative design in which the non-obvious use of materials is part of the imagination. The concept also plays a major role in classical work, but the material is more traditional. I consider making images as a continuous game and research in which the idea and the design are equal and influence each other”. Schutte has made Acrylic paintings in the snow, outside in the cold and also a number of his works are made of waste plastic. Schutte tells about his painting of a forest made from waste plastic, “We make a waste mountain from nature, I make nature from waste again. The work is called biotope, our living environment. Nature, but at the same time, our environment is plastic. If later excavations are made to this time, the main thing that will be found will be plastic. We live in a plastic age.”
