About the Item

Provenance: All the paintings we have for sale by this artist have come from the artists estate and have had no previous owners at all. Description: This delicate Impressionist landscape by Fanch Lel portrays a serene riverside scene, bathed in the soft, diffused light of dusk. The composition, with its muted tones and light textures, captures a peaceful moment by the water, where nature and architecture blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment. In the foreground, the river reflects the colors of the sky and landscape, its surface appearing calm yet subtly alive with ripples of pink, blue, and green. Lel’s light brushwork gives the water a shimmering quality, evoking a sense of stillness that invites contemplation. Along the riverbank, a cluster of slender trees rises gracefully, their leafy crowns swaying in the gentle evening breeze. The trees’ vertical lines add height to the composition and guide the viewer’s eye towards the small, white cottages nestled on the bank. The cottages, painted in soft whites with warm terracotta roofs, exude a sense of quiet charm and homeliness. They stand as a testament to the tranquil rural life, blending harmoniously with the natural surroundings. The artist’s use of subtle highlights on the cottage walls suggests the last light of day, illuminating the buildings with a gentle glow that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding foliage. The sky above is a blend of soft blues, pinks, and hints of lavender, capturing the ethereal beauty of dusk. Lel’s handling of color and light imbues the scene with a dreamlike quality, enhancing the sense of calm and simplicity. This piece captures a fleeting moment where day meets night, inviting the viewer to pause and reflect on the beauty of nature’s quiet rhythms.

Joris, Pio Joris attended the Istituto di Belle Arti in Rome and in 1861 he enrolled at the Accademia di San Luca, where he remained for just a year. On a visit to the 1st Esposizione Nazionale di Belle Arti of Florence in 1861 he was attracted by the naturalistic works from the Naples school. He came into contact with Domenico Morelli and Filippo Palizzi during a trip to Capri, Sorrento and Naples in 1866. In Rome, he kept company with Mariano Fortuny, whose painting, with its pleasant, captivating luministic effects, made a very strong impression on Joris. That was how he developed his own very personal artistic language, which went on to bring him remarkable commercial success on an international scale, helped by his collaboration with Paris art dealer...
