Dry docked sailboats and masts fill the picture plane in this warm scene. "This boatyard in Sarasota is a place of clutter and sun bleached surfaces and hulls, but always with the hope that one day these boats will regain their station in their classic fleets," says Fernando. He simplified the elements in the composition to focus on the engaging and complex lines, paired with the gentle morning light. Part of Fernando's signature series of nautical scenes capturing the watercraft, wildlife and landscape of his native Florida. He regularly travels, making sketches, taking notes and shooting photographs to later reference in his studio. The result is detailed, intimate paintings that radiate the stunning light and tropical breezes of the Sunshine State.
About the Artist
Artist Fernando Soler illuminates the Florida coast with vibrant seascapes. Being immersed in fine arts, as well as having been a charter captain, Soler has always been drawn to the ocean. Any location that inspires him turns into a sketch, is taken to his studio, and is brought to life with acrylic and oil on canvas. "My paintings reflect nautical themes, and nature in general, with the impressionist color palette in mind." Fernando enjoys listening to jazz from the sixties and seventies to inspire his creative process. When he is not painting, you can find him golfing, visiting fine restaurants and pubs in the city of New Orleans, or playing jazz on his trumpet. Fernando's creations have been showcased in both New York and Florida. He is an alumnus of Ringling College of Art and Design.
