Franklin Dehaven, NA Oil Painting Salmagundi Artist Farm with Barn Sunny Day

circa 1900

About the Item

Sunny Afternoon, farm with barn oil on panel. Image is 10 x 9 unframed and 13 3/4 x 12 3/4 x 1 framed. Salmagundi Club label and bio verso plus 2 other labels as seen. One partial. The painting is signed front LR in what looks like an original frame. Painting is in good condition and looks like it has been cleaned as the colors are fresh with DeHavens impasto technique quite evident throughout. Condition: some craquelure with a few flaking spots. Slight bow to the board. Frame: has a few marks commensurate with age and reads well front on. Bio Franklin De Haven (December 26, 1856 – January 10, 1934) was an American painter.[1] He was born in Bluffton, Indiana. He married Elizabeth Woodcock of Jersey City in 1902. His paintings received awards including the Inness Prize in 1902, from the Salmagundi Club; Silver Medal from the National Arts Club in 1921; and the Brown-Bigelow Gold Medal from the Allied Artists of America in 1930, for his painting "Nocturne". He was president of the Salmagundi Club from 1926 to 1927. He died in Presbyterian Hospital in New York after his right foot was amputated because of an infection.[1] source; Wikipedia SELLERS STATEMENT I have been in the art business as an artist and collector since the early 80's. I'm currently offering select paintings from my collection like this one. In order to collect new paintings, I must sell off some of my current collection. For art that I have painted, it is derived in a variety of ways. I'm a responder. I respond to light, color, design, etc. and I love painting both outdoors on location and in the studio under a controlled environment. I try to convey an idea, mood or just simply a beautiful setting. I'm inspired by a wide variety of subject matter and styles of painting and do not adhere to just one way. My paintings have won numerous awards over the years and have been collected both nationally and internationally. They can be found in three museum collections, the White House Collection and many private collections.
