About the Item

A woman is walking on the edge of the wood Landscape from Michaut . He was a "plein air" painter from Barbizon school, who the most famous painters were Camille Corot, Theodore Rousseau, Constant and Jean François Millet. Structural Analysis : The scene is composed by a pond on the left part. A woman is walking along a path in the middle of the artwork. On the right part, there is a dense forest. Finally, in the background, there are a meadow and a small hill and a blue cerulean sky in the top left corner. At the foot of the hill, a small village composed of a few thatched cottages is surrounded by meadows it's a geometrical painting, composed with triangular shapes (see image). In term of texture or density, obviously a diagonal is crossing the artwork in 2 parts, one is flat, the other one is dense. Have a look on pictures details, for the small vegetation painted with high texture. Thus, it catch the lights and bring more brighter the dark trees. Color analysis: Blue color of the sky and the river contrasts with the complementary orange color of the trees. Technique: oil on canvas 49,5x65,3 cm / 19.5x25,7 inch Thickness: 2cm It is signed Michaut XIXe -XXe.. He was trained by his father and began exhibiting works in 1899 at the Salon des Artistes Francais. He also exhibited at the Salon des Independants from 1925-1946. [1] There is surprisingly little else known about his career, a fact which must be attributable to his custom of doing small works after earlier masters. [2] Further confusion has been caused by these works not being signed, or when done in pairs with only one signed and later split apart, the artist’s identity became lost. Condition : Good condition - of course there are few small cracks on the sky but no discoloration. No missing parts of paint only where the frame. Provenance: Private collection - France.
