"The Fire," night landscape by Gabrielle Ricard - Cordingley.
Yr 1967.
A night landscape with forest fire, painted by Gabrielle Ricard-Cordingley (b. 1924), daughter of a well-known British naval officer painter George Ricard-Cordingley, who was born in Lyon.
Technique: oil on cardboard.
On the back of the painting is a label from the 1967 Cannes exhibition with the painter's address in Le Cannet, a town on the French Riviera whose particular light attracted many painters, most notably Pierre Bonnard.
The expressive power of the painting is created through the rough surface of the painting and a contrast between the dark blues with the orange of the fire from the blaze that arises in the heart of the forest.
His daughter dedicated her life and did several writings on the life of her painter father.
