This vibrant watercolor shows the Port of Papeete located in Tahiti, French Polynesia.
A painter of harbor scenes, seascapes, and ships, Gainor Jackson was born in 1926 in Devonport, a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand, and spent his early years observing and sketching the maritime traffic in Auckland Harbor. In 1962 he wrote The New Zealand Beach and Boating Book. In in 1969, he coauthored the book Concrete Boatbuilding; Its Techniques and Its Future. In 1975, a book of Jackson's harbor paintings and sketches named Reflection on Auckland Harbor was published. Jackson's works are in private collections worldwide.

Edouard-Jean Dambourgez first studied under Jules Lefebvre and, later, as an engraver and chromo-lithographer with Gustave Boulanger. Dambourgez commenced exhibiting in 1880 at the Salon des Artistes Français, and, in 1883, was elected a member of the Society. He exhibited frequently and with success at the other major Paris salons including the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Independants and the Salon des Champs-de-Mars. In 1884, he was commissioned by the Louvre to engrave the illustrations for the catalog to the Thiers Collection, recently bequeathed to the Museum. The recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards, Dambourgez received an honorable distinction in 1888 and an honorable mention in 1891.
In 1888, the critic Albert Wolff spotted his canvas 'A Cheese Shop' and recommended its inclusion at the Salon des Artistes Français. In 1891, the city of Paris bought his large canvas, 'The Cream and Cheese Market...

(Qinglongzhen [now Qingpu, Songjiang, Shanghai Municipality], b.1255; d. 1328).
Chinese painter. Under the Yuan dynasty (1279–1368) he became an official, rising to the level of Vice-President of the River Conservation Bureau. He was famous for his paintings of horses, which were much admired by both his Mongol and Chinese patrons. In horse painting he followed in the tradition of the Song-period (960–1279) artist Li Gonglin, which was characterized by use of the ‘iron-wire’ line and a minimum of shading. Ultimately, however, Ren’s style can be traced to the Tang (ad 618–907) painters Yan Liben and Han Gan.
Ren’s earliest surviving painting is dated 1280, indicating that he was a mature artist by his mid-twenties.
