Nelson's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging to 14,400 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2002 the record price for this artist at auction is 14,400 USD for After Seymour Thomas, sold at Nadeau's in 2016. Nelson has been featured in articles for ArtDaily, ARTFIXdaily and Detroit Free Press. The most recent article is Art, Design, Lighting and Furnishings, Spanning Centuries and Continents, in Rago's Unreserved Auctions on August 24-25 written for ArtDaily in July 2019. The first decades of the 20th Century were defined by the energetic development of visual and pictorial art. These decades were an time of experimentation, with artists delving into ideas surrounding Post-Impressionism, Expressionism and Abstraction. These innovations inspired artist communities and collectives on an international scale, with many groups developing different ways of expressing their ideas. The first twenty years of the twentieth century are viewed as the period in art history where modernist and modern ideas first began to have cultural influence. They were a prolific time in the art world, and industrial advances such as mechanisation led to other disciplines such as architecture, led by the work of Le Corbusier and Gerrit Rietveld, to grow at an equally high rate. The notion of a common discipline across all modes of art was epitomised in the Bauhaus movement, which became a predominant way of thinking about art. These philosophies that we associate today with modern and contemporary art can be traced back to the diverse range of artworks produced at this time. PROVENANCE: Estate of Hazel Hanlon Tampa, Florida; Lilac Gallery Collection. The piece will be stamped from Lilac Gallery on its verso.
