About the Item

An original American impressionist oil painting of a country road in Maine by Emile Gruppe's cousin, American artist Haley B. Nell. Not much else is known about Nell, although the artist is known for having painted charming, impressionistic landscapes and marines in and around the Camden, Rockport, Portland and Kennebunkport, Maine areas. The competent painter was largely self-taught, but was highly influenced by the work of John Joseph Enneking, Willard Metcalf and George Inness. He lived and died in Maine.
