Henri Cadiou
Mid Century Hyper Realist Marine with Boats Vigo Bay Spain, French Oil

1958

About the Item

A wonderful atmospheric seascape by French Henri Cadiou (1906-1989), depicting the Galician beach of Vigo - a rare painting, exhibited at a major international exhibition in 1958! Henri Cadiou (26 March 1906, Paris – 6 April 1989) was a French painter and lithographer known for his realist, hyperrealist and trompe-l'oeil paintings. He is credited with being a founder of the "Peintres de la réalité" art mouvement, which later was known as the Réalité/Trompe l'Oeil group This group of Realist painters had their first exhibition at the Carmine Gallery - in the Saint Germain area of Paris - in 1949. Cadiou would continue with solo shows in prestigious French and International Galleries (Galerie Romanet/Paris, Galerie Bradtke/Luxembourg, as well as in Salons such as the Salon des Indépendants, and the Salon Comparaisons. Henri Cadiou's work has been shown with the Realité/Trompe l'Oeil Group in Rio de Janeiro, Washington, New York, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Florence, Munich, and all over France. The second international exhibition of the "Painters of Reality" group was held in Brussels in 1958 - and the painting we present here was Henri Cadiou's exhibited submission to it. On the verso of the original frame is the label from the exhibition, with the title of the work "Vigo Bay", as well as a customs stamp. Vigo Bay - Ria de Vigo - is an estuary in Galicia, Spain. An oil on panel measuring 29 x 55cm, the painting is signed and dated (19)58 at the lower left. The overall framed size in its original, good frame -which however shows signs of age/wear - is 44x 70 cm.

Japan Japanese Garden by French naive outsider folk art primitive artist, 1975
Located in Norwich, GB
A perfect painting for lovers of Japan and those of primitive/naive outside art. It is a work by an internatoanlly noted extraordinary artist with an extraordinary life. Maurice LOIRAND (1922-2008) is born into a working class family in Brittany, near the Atlantic coast coast in France. He starts working as a skilled labourer in the shipyards aged 15. Aged 20, when the Nazis start to occupy the country, he joins the Resistance movement, where he meets and befriends thinkers, painters and poets. He is thus introduced to an artistic and intellectual universe far removed from the world of his origins. Loirand finds himself drawn to art, and soon dedicates all his free time to learn how to paint. Completely self taught, he soon begins to exhibit his pictures alongside high level artists. He moves to Paris in the 1950s, and - although still working as a technician - paints all night. He finally becomes a full time artist in 1968. International travel and a multitude of exhibitions follow. He exhibits in Brazil, Argentina, and with Jean Tiroche Gallery in New York, among others. His work is now shown alongside works by Leger, Matisse and Picasso. The Collector's Guild New York Ltd commissions Maurice Loirand for several works of lithographic art. Loirand discovers Japan in the early 1970s, and decides to stay for 18 years. He marries Kazué SHIMOTORI, a Japanese poet...

By Angel Ramiro Sanchez

Painted en plein air in Fiesole, Italy, just outside of the bustling city of Florence. Artist Bio Angel Ramiro Sanchez was born in 1974 in Maracaibo, Venezuela. At age six was accepted with full scholarship into the Instituto the Niños Cantores del Zulia, school for musically gifted children. At age fourteen he began five years of apprenticeship with the realist painter, Abdon J. Romero, an eminent specialist in murals for churches and public buildings. In 1993, a study grant from Mgr. Gustavo Ocando Yamarte, Founder the Niños Cantores, enabled him to travel to Florence, Italy, where he studied at the renowned Accademia di Belle Arti, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1997. At the same time, he was enrolled at The Florence Academy of Art,founded by painter Daniel Graves, where he received a diploma in Painting. Ramiro was appointed senior painting instructor at The Florence Academy of Art in 1997, and is currently Director of the Advanced Painting Program. He believes the painter must draw his information from "all five senses" to tell the complete human story. Ramiros work is predominantly represented by th e Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor, New York, but also Scriba Gallery, venice, Italy, Jack Meier Gallery, Houston, Tx.
