A substantial and dramatic Symbolist oil showing a view of the famous Parisian square with the Obelisk of Luxor silhouetted against a bolt of lightning striking and the city aflame. In the center foreground, a woman wearing a wreath in her hair stands on a horse-drawn fire-truck and aims a water-hose at a Neoclassical facade designed by the architect Jacques-Ange Gabriel. Henri Julie was born in the 15th Arrondissement of Paris In the Caserne de Pompiers and died in Tournon-sur-Rhone in the Ardeche. He lived and painted in France and California.
