This is an oil painting of a beach pier structure along Southern California's famous beaches. Kornfeld had California as his inspiration, capturing the iconic landscape, structures or the unexpected but quintessential.
A mid-century California modernist, "Kornfeld's paintings came to help define the California modernist movement, as graphic landscapes with surreal colors and electric interpretations of everyday scenery" - LA Mag.
Kornfeld has journeyed to China, Sweden, France, Greece, England, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the United States, painting the landscape and its architecture as he saw them in colorful, faceted and geometric shapes, alluding to Cubism and Impressionism. In the latter part of his life, Kornfeld returned to California and using broad, chromatic palette, captured the brilliant light on the coast, hills, valleys of California.
Kornfeld's paintings can be found in private and public collections throughout the world. A selection of his exhibitions include – the Long Beach Museum of Art, The Downey Museum of Art, The U. S. Navy Museum (Washington D.C), Charles M. Russell Museum, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, The American Academy of Arts, and UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund Tour)- International Tour.
